Turkish, Chinese, Russian and Iranian Perspectives
09 March 2012, Ankara
Anti-government uprising that began almost one year ago in different parts of Syria totally broke down peace, stability and political order in the country. The four decades old Ba'athist regime of Damascus has been using a mix of strategies to quell the political unrest which include heavy handed military methods to political reforms, which have so far not helped the Bashar al-Assad's regime to regain its political legitimacy. Although thousands of people have lost their lives in pro-democracy demonstrations since beginning, international community was not able to produce a coherent and effective strategy how to deal with worsening humanitarian and political situation in this critical country. The Institute of Strategic Thinking in collaboration with the Strategic Research Center of Turkish MFA brings together a distinguished panel for discussing the Syrias future. Scholars and diplomats from four critical countries who are playing major roles in the case of Syria will explain their countries position and will try to explore possible ways of collaboration in dealing with Syrias unrest.
